The Dairy Makes Sense Make Change grant opportunity will empower students to encourage their peers and adults to "make change" in their diets and wallets by educating them on the nutritional benefits of milk cheese and yogurt, and by encouraging them to choose choosing nutrient-rich and economical dairy products for meals and snacks. Grants are only available to schools in the Midwest Dairy region (ND, SD, MN, IA, IL, MO, AR, KS and eastern OK).

Please briefly explain in 200 words or less how you will take the message about the
nutrition and economic value of dairy foods into your school and community in the questions
below.
* How would you use grant funds? Note that the grant fund is $500.00. Your program goals
and description should align with the requested expenses. Please list amount needed
(where applicable) for each expense and provide additional detail regarding how funds
will be spent in each area (where applicable).

* What is the goal of your school and community outreach to take the message about the
nutrition and economic value of dairy foods into your school and community? Please share
why this activity will be valuable to your school and community.

* Midwest Dairy Council is interested in how your school's students will use traditional
and social media to take the message about the nutrition and economic value of dairy foods
into your school and community. Include specific examples of how you will use traditional
media (newsletters, newspapers, radio) and social media (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter).

Terms
- Use the Dairy Makes Sense Make Change lesson plan with at least 25 students.
- Implement their grant program by June1, 2010.
- Submit a program report by June 15, 2010
- Submit signed consent photo release forms and at least 10 photos taken of the youth
team at work on the grant project or at events that were part of the grant program. Or of
promotional and informational materials developed by the youth team
- Agree to enroll in the school wellness program Fuel Up to Play 60
(www.fueluptoplay60.com) and agree to participate fully by displaying the Fuel Up to
Play 60 Activation Kit materials and encouraging students to track their healthy eating
and physical activity online (program enrollment is free of charge)
- Provide permission for Midwest Dairy Council to share your success.
